The U.S. Department of Defense recently flagged artificial intelligence firm Anthropic’s technology as a potential supply chain risk. Following this development, Google confirmed on Friday that it will maintain its provision of Anthropic’s AI solutions to customers, with the explicit exclusion of any defense-related applications. Amazon quickly followed suit, announcing its intention to continue offering Anthropic-related technologies to its cloud service clientele. Microsoft had similarly announced its stance the day prior. This series of announcements comes after Anthropic declined to accept the Department of Defense's terms of use, a decision that led U.S. President Trump to direct federal agencies to discontinue the utilization of the company's technology. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth further clarified that collaboration with Anthropic would be wound down in a phased manner over the next six months.
