After a disagreement with the U.S. Department of Defense, the daily active users and new app installations of Anthropic's AI model, Claude, have surged significantly on mobile devices. Previously, Anthropic's CEO, Dario Amodei, refused to allow the U.S. government to use its AI system for mass surveillance of the American public or to power fully autonomous weapons, leading the company to be labeled as a supply chain risk by the U.S. Department of Defense. Despite this, Claude has continued to gain user support, topping the free download chart on the U.S. App Store, with the number of paid subscribers also doubling.
