An insider at Alibaba has clarified that the company has not made any adjustments to QianWen’s open-source strategy. Furthermore, it has not assessed the foundational model team using commercialization criteria such as daily active users. Lin Junyang’s decision to leave the company is not linked to these considerations. Following QianWen’s elevation to a group-level strategy, Alibaba intends to bring in additional technical expertise to boost the talent density within the foundational model team. This move entailed modifications to Lin Junyang’s purview of rights and responsibilities, changes that he was not amenable to, ultimately resulting in his resignation. Lin Junyang, who previously served as the core leader of QianWen and held the distinction of being Alibaba’s youngest P10-level technical leader, announced his departure on a social media platform in the early hours of March 4.
