IT Home, March 4 – On March 3, Accenture, a global behemoth in IT consulting and services, unveiled its plan to acquire Ookla, the parent company behind the famous speed test software Speedtest, for a hefty sum of $1.2 billion (roughly equivalent to RMB 8.298 billion). At present, Ookla operates as a subsidiary under the umbrella of Ziff Davis, a prominent U.S. digital media conglomerate. Ookla boasts well-recognized tools like Speedtest and Downdetector in its portfolio. Speedtest is renowned for its daily collection and analysis of billions of mobile network samples, encompassing metrics such as signal strength, coverage, and user experience. Among its B2B clientele are telecom operators and regulatory bodies. Downdetector, on the other hand, aids streaming services, banks, and other entities in detecting service disruptions. Accenture intends to leverage Ookla's data to assist clients in securely expanding their AI applications and establishing a robust, trustworthy data foundation. This strategic acquisition is poised to bolster Accenture's technical prowess in serving public sector clients, including the U.S. Air Force and the Social Security Administration. For the average user, Speedtest and Downdetector will continue to be the go-to tools for gauging internet speed and monitoring service status.
