Singapore is taking proactive steps to elevate the artificial intelligence (AI) proficiency of its workforce. The nation has ambitious plans to disseminate AI-related knowledge across diverse professional groups, including lawyers, accountants, and even incarcerated individuals. Josephine Teo, the Minister for Digital Development and Information, announced that over the forthcoming three years, Singapore aims to support 100,000 workers and 10,000 businesses in enhancing their AI competencies. This initiative is geared towards nurturing a pool of 'AI-literate' professionals with cross-disciplinary skills across various sectors.

K. Shanmugam, the Minister for Home Affairs and Coordinating Minister for National Security, disclosed that the Singapore Prison Service will initiate a pilot program aimed at imparting knowledge of commonly utilized generative AI tools to elderly inmates. This innovative approach underscores Singapore's commitment to inclusivity in its AI education efforts.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong unveiled a substantial S$155 billion fiscal budget last month, earmarked for tackling technological challenges and mitigating the impacts of trade fragmentation. In this strategic economic blueprint, AI is highlighted as a cornerstone, with a steadfast pledge to realize 'growth without job losses'.
