On March 2, the Lightyear Beyond team at Meituan unveiled that its AI-powered browser, Tabbit, has officially entered the public beta phase, offering compatibility with both macOS and Windows platforms. During this beta period, the browser is available free of charge and does not necessitate an invitation code for access. Tabbit is tailored to meet the needs of office workers, students, and content creators, seamlessly integrating web browsing, comprehensive search capabilities, AI-driven conversations, and the execution of complex tasks.

However, on March 3, a user leveled accusations against Tabbit, alleging that it had copied code from their open-source project, Peiduwa, and substantiated their claim with pertinent screenshots. In response, the Tabbit team clarified that during the development process, they had utilized Peiduwa code that, at the time, lacked a license declaration. Subsequently, they failed to promptly address the GPLv3 license that was later introduced by the original author. This oversight led to the initially released closed-source version of Tabbit infringing upon the open-source license.

To rectify the situation, the team has promptly removed the relevant code, transitioned Tabbit to a fully open-source model, and is currently engaged in discussions with the original author to obtain formal authorization for the project's license.
