On March 2, Alibaba Group made a significant announcement: it would streamline its internal AI nomenclature and centralize its core brand identity under the singular name, 'Qwen'. The Qwen large model encompasses both foundational models and specialized domain-specific variants. Meanwhile, the Qwen App emerges as the premier AI application tailored for end-users. Prior to this consolidation, a variety of names including Qwen, Tongyi Qwen, and Qwen were used interchangeably, causing some confusion. With this unification effort, Alibaba's large model will be officially branded as 'Qwen Large Model' in Chinese, while retaining 'Qwen' as its English moniker. Additionally, 'Tongyi Lab' will be recognized as the designated name for the AI research institution within the Alibaba Group.
