On February 28, Taobao Flash Sale introduced 'Bai Ze' (Ostrakon-VL), an open-source, large-scale AI model specifically designed for risk control and governance within the catering services and retail sectors. The company also announced that it would provide this technology free of charge to the entire industry. Developed on the foundation of Alibaba Cloud's Tongyi Qianwen Qwen3-VL-8B base model, 'Bai Ze' is capable of analyzing live-streamed kitchen videos around the clock. It automatically detects crucial food safety details, such as kitchen cleanliness and proper separation of ingredients, and promptly issues alerts for any violations, facilitating continuous and real-time monitoring.
Moreover, by utilizing advanced multi-image comparison and reasoning technologies, 'Bai Ze' effectively addresses and prevents issues related to fraudulent store operations. Presently, 'Bai Ze' has been successfully implemented in over 100 production scenarios on Taobao Flash Sale, accumulating more than 1 billion usage calls. Remarkably, its deployment costs are merely one-twentieth of those associated with comparable solutions.
The model weights and a comprehensive technical report for 'Bai Ze' have been made available through mainstream open-source platforms under the Apache 2.0 license. This licensing allows for unrestricted use, deployment, and modification, fostering widespread adoption and innovation within the industry.
