OpenAI has entered into a multi-year strategic alliance with Amazon. Under this pact, Amazon is set to invest a substantial $50 billion in OpenAI, beginning with an initial outlay of $15 billion, and followed by a subsequent injection of $35 billion. The duo will join forces to craft a 'stateful runtime environment' utilizing OpenAI's models and deliver services via the Amazon Bedrock platform. The official rollout of these services is anticipated in the months ahead. Furthermore, AWS is poised to become the sole third-party cloud distribution ally for OpenAI's Frontier platform.
Expanding upon their existing multi-year deal valued at $38 billion, both entities will embark on new collaborative ventures worth $10 billion over the next eight years. OpenAI has pledged to utilize approximately 2 gigawatts of Trainium computing power. Amazon is optimistic that its Trainium4 chip, slated for delivery in 2027, will deliver substantial performance enhancements. Lastly, OpenAI will also team up with Amazon to create bespoke models tailored for Amazon's developers, aimed at bolstering consumer-oriented applications.
