On February 27th, ASIOS reported that an open letter, signed by over 200 employees from Google and OpenAI, has surfaced. In this letter, they express support for Anthropic's position and urge stringent limitations on the utilization of AI within military and surveillance domains. The letter unequivocally objects to the deployment of AI technology in contentious areas, including domestic surveillance and fully automated warfare, as a means to counter related technological demands emanating from the U.S. Pentagon. As of Thursday afternoon, local time, the letter has garnered signatures from over 160 Google employees and more than 40 OpenAI employees, with certain individuals opting to remain anonymous. Furthermore, the open letter appeals to the leadership of both companies to transcend their differences and collectively resist military demands. It underscores the importance of maintaining transparency within the industry regarding technological boundaries.
