On February 26, 2026, actor Wang Jinsong took to social media to reveal that a WeChat Channels account had employed AI technology to appropriate his likeness and create videos. The voice and lip-syncing in these videos were so flawlessly executed that discerning the genuine from the counterfeit became an impossible task. Wang has since lodged a complaint with the WeChat Channels team, and as of now, the content in question has either been removed or suspended from recommendations. Wang Jinsong expressed his concern that, moving forward, there could be an uptick in more sophisticated and malevolent AI-driven portrait infringements, which might even be exploited for fraudulent activities.
