On February 26, the Digital Policy Office of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the Big Data Development Bureau of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region formally signed a memorandum in Hong Kong. This milestone event heralds a fresh chapter in the collaborative and international efforts within the artificial intelligence (AI) sector between the two regions. The memorandum outlines a commitment to deepen cooperation across various domains, encompassing AI applications, the internationalization of data products, the establishment of international data infrastructure, the exchange of insights on AI governance and technical standards, as well as the nurturing of talent in scientific and technological innovation.
Drawing upon Guangxi's unique strengths—such as its favorable cross-border data policies, access to cost-effective green energy, and geographical proximity to the ASEAN market—and combining these with Hong Kong's established role as an international financial center and innovation and technology hub, the collaboration is poised to empower technology and innovation enterprises in both regions. By facilitating their expansion into the ASEAN and broader international markets, this partnership aims to amplify their global influence and drive forward the frontiers of AI innovation.
