On February 25, US news outlet Axios reported that representatives from several leading US technology companies are scheduled to visit the White House next week. There, they will sign a written agreement with President Trump, pledging to either self-supply or procure the electricity required for their AI data centers. This initiative aims to shield consumers from potential electricity bill increases stemming from the expansion of AI technology. Anticipated participants in this agreement include prominent firms such as OpenAI, Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Meta, xAI, and Oracle. Trump emphasized that this endeavor is designed to secure US leadership in the AI sector while simultaneously alleviating the financial burden on working families. Nevertheless, certain Democratic lawmakers and clean energy advocacy groups in the US contend that such measures do not tackle underlying challenges, such as the 'technological obsolescence' plaguing the US power grid.
