On February 5, the Global Times reported that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has officially unveiled the first-ever official large-scale AI model in Olympic history, built on Alibaba’s QianWen technology. IOC President Kirsty Coventry emphasized that with QianWen’s cutting-edge support, the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics will herald an intelligent new era for the Olympic Movement, positioning it as the most technologically advanced Games to date.
Currently, the model is being deployed across both professional event management and public-facing services. Notably, the “National Olympic Committee AI Assistant” and the “Olympic AI Assistant” have been launched to support staff from National Olympic Committees around the world and global audiences, respectively. Furthermore, an automated media description system and AIGC-driven content generation tools—both developed using the QianWen model—are now integral to the Winter Olympics’ content production workflows. Alibaba Cloud’s AI-powered broadcasting enhancements have also achieved unprecedented sophistication, elevating the viewer experience to new heights.
