On February 4, Amazon formally introduced an enhanced iteration of Alexa in the United States, providing an AI-augmented digital assistant service exclusively for its paid Prime subscribers. Back in February of the previous year, Amazon unveiled a new version of its digital assistant, which was built upon large language models, marking a significant upgrade from the prior version that depended on preset responses.

U.S. Prime members, who pay an annual fee of $139, have the opportunity to apply for the service during an 11-month trial phase, with access being granted in stages. By January, tens of millions of users had already taken advantage of Alexa+. Commencing Wednesday, non-Prime users are also able to subscribe to the service independently for $19.99 per month, though the annual cost will be roughly $100 more than that for Prime members.
