Nvidia initially had intentions to invest as much as $100 billion in OpenAI to bolster the development of its AI computing capabilities. However, this plan has hit a snag. Nvidia's CEO, Jensen Huang, made it clear that the so-called "$100 billion investment" was "never a concrete promise", and emphasized that investment evaluations would be conducted on a round-by-round basis. Previously, Huang had expressed, in private conversations, his criticism of OpenAI, pointing out what he perceived as a lack of discipline in its commercial endeavors. At present, both sides are reevaluating their collaborative relationship, with the possibility of Nvidia investing several tens of billions of dollars in OpenAI's upcoming funding round. This cycle, where the chip behemoth invests in its major clients, has sparked market skepticism regarding the genuine demand for AI.
