At the 2026 Annual Conference of the American Meteorological Society, NVIDIA made a splash by introducing the Earth-2 lineup of open-source models and software suites. This comprehensive package encompasses the medium-range forecasting model (Earth-2 Medium Range), the short-term storm prediction model (Earth-2 Nowcasting), and the global data assimilation framework (Earth-2 Global Data Assimilation).

Built upon the innovative Atlas, StormScope, and HealDA architectures, these models empower users with highly accurate 15-day forecasts for more than 70 meteorological parameters. They also deliver 0-6 hour storm predictions with national coverage at a kilometer-level resolution, along with GPU-accelerated, second-by-second generation of atmospheric initial conditions.

Earth-2 seamlessly blends physical simulations, AI-driven models, and cutting-edge visualization technologies. It operates on NVIDIA's powerhouse supercomputers, including the DGX™ GH200, HGX™ H100, and OVX™ systems, facilitating global atmospheric simulations and interactive visual explorations.

For developers eager to dive in, the Earth-2 medium-range model and Earth-2 Studio tools are already accessible on Hugging Face and GitHub. Meanwhile, the global data assimilation system is slated for release later this year, promising even greater capabilities in the realm of weather forecasting.
