Tencent convened its group staff conference and annual meeting in Shenzhen. At the event, Board Chairman Ma Huateng offered his insights on the performance of various business segments over the past year. He underscored that 2025 is set to be a pivotal year for artificial intelligence (AI), noting that Tencent is making substantial investments in this cutting-edge field. He elaborated on the internal testing phase of "Yuanbao Pai" within Tencent's AI application, Yuanbao, and shared details about the campaign to distribute 1 billion yuan in red envelopes. This initiative aims to emulate the wildly successful red envelope feature that was first introduced on WeChat.
Turning his attention to Tencent Video, Ma Huateng acknowledged that there were fewer blockbuster hits in 2025 compared to previous years. Nevertheless, he urged everyone to maintain patience. He emphasized that, in addition to continuing its investments in long-form video content, the company is also set to develop advertising-driven products to diversify its revenue streams.
Ma Huateng had high praise for Tencent's gaming business, describing it as "exceptionally robust." Tencent President Martin Lau echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the significance of AI and referring to it as the greatest technological revolution of our time. According to interpretations of the data, Tencent's gaming division witnessed a remarkable 23% growth in 2025, outperforming the broader market. Several long-standing products within the portfolio delivered exceptional performance. The international market played a crucial role, contributing 30% of the division's revenue, which surpassed 10 billion US dollars. Some products, in particular, achieved significant milestones in expanding their presence in overseas markets.
