Zhang Yutong, President of Moonshot AI's Kimi, revealed at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2026 that Kimi is about to release a new model. Kimi has developed a globally leading open-source model using only 1% of the resources of top U.S. laboratories, with some performance surpassing that of top U.S. closed-source models. This is attributed to a significant amount of basic research innovation, and Kimi has also integrated engineering thinking into its research, such as employing the Muon optimizer and a self-developed linear attention mechanism to enhance efficiency. During the Q&A session, Zhang Yutong once again confirmed the upcoming release of the new model. Currently, Kimi has opened registration for the internal testing program of the new model's API.
