On January 22, 2026, eBay made an announcement regarding an update to its platform regulations, clearly banning users from employing 'agent-based purchasing' artificial intelligence technologies. This move is reminiscent of Amazon's 'Buy for Me' function, which was rolled out in April 2025. The updated user agreement is set to come into force on January 20. Meanwhile, users operating under the previous agreement will start adhering to the new rules from February 20. Furthermore, eBay has incorporated blocking provisions for AI firms such as Perplexity and Anthropic in its robots.txt file. However, it continues to permit access for Google's shopping bots.
