As per a report from Huanqiu Tech, in January 2026, Taobao and Tmall formally introduced an AI-driven fake image detection model. This innovative tool is designed to tackle the growing issue of fraudulent refunds in the e-commerce landscape, where scammers use AI-generated fake product images to deceive sellers.
The model empowers merchants with a one-click solution to detect product images in Wangwang chats that have been suspectedly altered using Photoshop (PS). Upon confirmation that an image is AI-generated and fake, the findings will be seamlessly integrated into dispute resolution, refund assessment, and appeal procedures, streamlining the process for merchants.
