As reported by Windows Central, on January 21, 2026, Microsoft released updates for the Notepad and Paint apps to users in the Windows 11 Canary and Dev channels who are part of the preview program.
The Notepad app now offers several new enhancements. Users can employ Markdown strikethrough formatting, create nested lists, and enjoy a revamped welcome experience interface. Additionally, the app has been optimized to streamline the display of text generated by AI.
The Paint app, on the other hand, introduces an innovative AI-powered coloring book feature. This feature enables the app to generate coloring book pages based on text prompts, although it is exclusively available on Copilot+ PCs. Moreover, Paint now includes a fill tolerance slider, allowing users to fine-tune the precision of their coloring efforts.
