Demis Hassabis, CEO of DeepMind, Google's AI subsidiary, stated that China's AI models may only be a few months behind those of the United States and the West, challenging the view that China's AI technology is significantly lagging. He mentioned that the gap in technological capabilities between Chinese AI models and those from the U.S. and the West is smaller than estimated one or two years ago. About a year ago, the large model launched by DeepSeek created a stir in Silicon Valley. Now, tech giants like Alibaba and startups are also rolling out powerful models. Additionally, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has also said that the U.S. does not have a significant lead in the AI race, with China nearly on par with the U.S. in terms of infrastructure and AI models.
