On January 15 (local time), the U.S. Senate passed a bill that allocates billions of dollars in funding to numerous federal scientific research agencies. This move comes as a direct rebuttal to the Trump administration's earlier plan to implement substantial budget cuts in the areas of scientific research and aerospace. Under the terms of the new legislation, the National Science Foundation is set to receive $8.75 billion to advance research in fields such as quantum information science and artificial intelligence. This amount vastly surpasses the White House's proposed 57% budget reduction. Democratic Senator Van Hollen emphasized that this funding injection will facilitate the launch of approximately 10,000 new scientific research projects, providing support and opportunities for over 250,000 researchers, educators, and students.
