Long before many diseases become apparent with overt symptoms, sleep patterns frequently offer early clues. In the United States, researchers have crafted an artificial intelligence model called SleepFM. This innovative model can forecast the likelihood of developing roughly 130 diseases, including heart disease, dementia, and specific forms of cancer, by leveraging just a single night's sleep data. SleepFM has undergone training on an extensive dataset, encompassing nearly 600,000 hours of polysomnography recordings from 65,000 individuals. It makes its predictions by amalgamating and scrutinizing physiological signals along with their interconnections. This groundbreaking study marks the inaugural use of artificial intelligence to dissect large-scale sleep data, with the pertinent paper gracing the pages of the esteemed journal Nature Medicine.
