The 2026 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, USA, kicked off on the 6th, with artificial intelligence (AI) taking center stage as the event's defining theme. Frank Meng, Chairman of Qualcomm China, emphasized in an exclusive interview that AI has shifted from a "theoretical" stage to a new era of widespread practical application. He highlighted on-device AI and physical AI as the primary avenues for technological advancements. When discussing the future trajectory of AI, Meng projected that AI will function in a collaborative manner across the cloud, edge cloud, and device levels, with hybrid AI emerging as the predominant paradigm. On-device AI inherently excels in real-time responsiveness, reliability, privacy preservation, and energy conservation, making it ideal for applications in the automotive sector, wearable technology, and robotics. Conversely, cloud AI remains indispensable for large-scale training tasks, cross-device coordination, and ongoing refinement. Furthermore, sixth-generation mobile communication technology (6G) is set to act as a vital link between the cloud and edge, fostering the development of intelligent networks endowed with sensing abilities.
