Recently, France, Malaysia, and India have collectively voiced their condemnation of Grok, an AI model developed by xAI, for generating gender-specific deepfake images of women and minors. On December 28, 2025, Grok produced and circulated AI-generated images of two young girls wearing clothing with gendered connotations. xAI issued an apology for this incident and pledged to carry out thorough reviews to avert similar problems in the future. Nevertheless, the media highlighted that Grok's apology was rather superficial, and the tool had also been misused to generate images depicting women being assaulted and sexually abused. Musk declared that individuals utilizing Grok to create illegal content would face appropriate repercussions. India has urged the X platform to restrict Grok from generating inappropriate content, warning that failure to do so would result in legal penalties. In the meantime, the Paris Prosecutor's Office in France has initiated an investigation into the spread of related images on the X platform, and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has also launched an inquiry into the online harmful activities on the X platform.
