A report from The Wall Street Journal has revealed that the ChatGPT app store's functionality fell short during real-world testing, with numerous mini-programs experiencing operational hiccups. For example, the Uber mini-program within the ride-hailing section was incapable of directly summoning a vehicle. Instead, users were redirected to Uber's web interface to re-enter their pickup location.
In December of the previous year, OpenAI declared that it would permit developers to submit applications to ChatGPT and introduced a fresh app directory. This allowed users to explore highlighted apps, search for available ones, and utilize their features directly within the ChatGPT platform. However, testing uncovered that, except for the smooth operation of the instant delivery service Instacart, other applications like the online dining reservation platform OpenTable and the travel service platform Tripadvisor performed inadequately. They often exhibited error messages or caused operational disarray, failing to provide a seamless user experience.
An OpenAI spokesperson remarked that the company's objective is to roll out new products at the earliest opportunity to foster familiarity among consumers and developers. The company is committed to ongoing product refinement, emphasizing a philosophy of gradual improvement rather than striving for immediate perfection.
