In December 2025, OpenAI is set to initially roll out an age prediction model for individual ChatGPT subscribers. Alongside this, the company will update the model's specifications by introducing four new usage guidelines tailored for teenagers aged between 13 and 17. The overarching goal is to create a safe and age-appropriate environment for users. In cases where a user's age is uncertain or their provided information is incomplete, the system will automatically switch to a teenager mode. Meanwhile, adult users will be given an age verification option to gain access to the full range of features. The verification process involves uploading a photo ID and undergoing liveness detection. Typically, the review period for verification ranges from 30 minutes to 24 hours. Currently, the model is undergoing joint testing in several countries, with a primary focus on enhancing the accuracy of identifying minors to prevent adult users from being incorrectly categorized.
