Since its debut in May 2023, the total amount spent by users worldwide on the ChatGPT mobile app has rocketed past the $3 billion mark, establishing a fresh benchmark for the industry. This sum encompasses the aggregate spending across both the Apple iOS and Android operating systems.
In 2023 alone, user expenditure amounted to $42.9 million. Forecasts suggest that this figure will climb to $487 million in 2024 and will continue its upward trajectory, reaching a staggering $2.48 billion in 2025. Remarkably, ChatGPT has attained this $3 billion spending milestone in a mere 31 months, outstripping the growth rates of popular apps such as TikTok, Disney+, and HBO Max.
The majority of ChatGPT's revenue stems from paid subscriptions. However, the company is actively exploring additional avenues to enhance its earnings. Plans are in the pipeline to introduce advertising as a monetization strategy and to launch a feature reminiscent of an app store, aimed at diversifying its income sources.
In a related development, Google is poised to redirect its search advertising business towards domains powered by artificial intelligence. Meanwhile, Anthropic, another player in the AI arena, projects that its revenue will surge to $70 billion by 2028.
