OpenAI has brought on board George Osborne, the former Chancellor of the Exchequer in the UK, to serve as the leader of OpenAI for Countries. His role will be to oversee the worldwide development of the 'Stargate' project. This endeavor marks the international expansion phase of the 'Stargate' initiative, primarily centered around the establishment of data centers across the United States. Earlier, in a move reflecting similar strategic outreach, OpenAI's rival Anthropic engaged former UK Prime Minister Sunak as an advisor in October.

Back in April of this year, OpenAI started contemplating the possibility of taking the 'Stargate' project beyond U.S. borders. Subsequently, in May, the company formally introduced the OpenAI for Countries program. At present, OpenAI has secured pertinent agreements with both the UK and the UAE. Moreover, it is actively engaged in talks with 50 other nations, aiming to support them in cultivating their own 'sovereign AI' capabilities.
