On December 1st, local time, Apple made an official announcement stating that John Giannandrea, who holds the position of Senior Vice President of Machine Learning and AI Strategy, is set to retire in the spring of 2026. Prior to his retirement, he will take on the role of a company advisor. In the same vein, Apple is thrilled to introduce Amar Subramanya as its new Vice President of Artificial Intelligence. Subramanya will shoulder the responsibility of spearheading crucial domains within Apple, including foundational models, machine learning research, as well as AI safety and evaluation.

Previously, Subramanya had an impressive stint at Microsoft, where he served as the Corporate Vice President of AI. Moreover, he dedicated 16 years of his career to Google. Before leaving Google, he held the position of Engineering Lead for Google's Gemini Assistant.
