Tsinghua University recently issued a document that, for the first time, offers a systematic, all-encompassing, and tiered set of guidelines and standards for the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) on campus. This document is divided into three sections: "General Provisions," "Teaching," and "Dissertations and Practical Achievements," encompassing the key aspects of teaching and academic research.

The "General Provisions" section delineates the university's proactive yet cautious approach, outlining five fundamental principles: "accountability," "adherence to regulations and integrity," "data security," "prudent and critical thinking," and "fairness and inclusivity."

In the "Teaching" section, it is suggested that instructors have the autonomy to decide how and to what extent AI should be employed. This section aims to guide students in developing a dialectical understanding of AI and encourages them to delve into AI-assisted learning methods. However, it strictly prohibits the direct submission of AI-generated content as academic achievements.

The "Dissertations and Practical Achievements" section underscores that graduate students are strictly prohibited from using AI as a substitute for academic training. It also forbids practices such as ghostwriting, plagiarism, and fabrication. Furthermore, it mandates that instructors provide oversight throughout the entire process.
