Google is facing a lawsuit, accused of unlawfully monitoring the private communications of users who utilize Gmail, instant - messaging services, and video - conferencing applications through its Gemini AI assistant. Traditionally, users had the autonomy to decide whether to activate Google's AI tools. Nevertheless, in October of this year, Google "surreptitiously" turned on the Gemini feature within the pertinent apps, gathering private data without notifying users or obtaining their consent.
Although users have the option to disable this function, they are required to navigate through the privacy settings to accomplish this. Failing to do so means that Google will employ Gemini to access and make use of all of the users' private communication records. The lawsuit alleges that Google has breached California's Invasion of Privacy Act, which was enacted in 1967.
