On November 11, Business Insider reported that the most recent court filings disclosed a private text message sent by Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, to Elon Musk's close associate, Shivon Zilis, on February 9, 2023. In this message, Altman inquired whether it would be appropriate to post a message of praise for Musk on the X platform. Altman articulated his desire to acknowledge Musk's pivotal role in OpenAI's early stages and expressed his admiration for the team.

Less than a week after sending the text, Altman took to the X platform to post a message, where he lauded Musk for raising the collective ambition of society and noted that Musk's contributions had been underestimated by the public.

This text message, which is part of the evidence in Musk's ongoing lawsuit against Altman and OpenAI, provides insight into the long-simmering tensions between the two parties. Musk has accused OpenAI of straying from its founding principle to "develop artificial general intelligence in a non-profit manner for the benefit of all humanity."
