Internal documents from Meta in the United States have unveiled a concerning reality: roughly 10% of the company's 2024 revenue, amounting to approximately $16 billion, was generated from ads promoting scams and prohibited goods. This sheds light on significant loopholes in Meta's advertising business regulation. Over the past three years, at the very least, Meta has consistently fallen short in effectively identifying and blocking a substantial number of non-compliant ads. As a result, billions of users on its platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, have been exposed to risks such as investment scams. In fact, the platform is estimated to be pushing around 15 billion fraudulent ads on a daily basis.
