Google is currently engaged in preliminary talks with artificial intelligence firm Anthropic, aiming to further ramp up its investment. Sources with inside knowledge of the situation reveal that this new funding round could see Anthropic valued at more than $350 billion. The transaction could take various forms, including strategic investment (where Google provides additional cloud computing services), convertible debt, or a fresh round of priced financing slated for early next year. Previously, Google has already poured over $3 billion into Anthropic, securing around a 14% stake in the company. At present, Anthropic is locked in a multi-trillion-dollar contest with its chief competitor, OpenAI, vying for supremacy in the field of generative artificial intelligence models. Meanwhile, the tech landscape has seen a division among industry giants, with Amazon and Google throwing their weight behind Anthropic, while Microsoft and Nvidia have aligned themselves with OpenAI.
