On October 16, international media outlets reported that Meta Platforms (META.O) is in the process of building a gigawatt-level data center in Texas, the United States. The primary objective behind this ambitious project is to propel its artificial intelligence (AI) business forward.
This endeavor marks Meta's most recent undertaking among a series of substantial investments in the AI domain. It is a strategic move designed to uphold its preeminent standing in the fiercely competitive AI landscape. On Wednesday, Meta disclosed that it would channel more than $1.5 billion into the construction of this new facility. Once completed, the data center is projected to possess a capacity of 1 gigawatt, which will be instrumental in supporting high-performance computing chips for AI initiatives.
As per a statement from a Meta spokesperson, the data center is anticipated to commence operations in 2028.
