On October 10, 2025, India's National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) teamed up with fintech company Razorpay and OpenAI to launch a pilot project featuring an AI-driven payment function on the ChatGPT platform. By tapping into India's homegrown Unified Payments Interface (UPI), users are now able to finalize shopping payments seamlessly within chat dialogues, eliminating the need to switch to external apps. At present, the project is in its early testing stage and has already roped in Axis Bank, Airtel Payments Bank, and e-commerce platform Bigbasket as partners. There are also plans to broaden its application to more scenarios down the line.
