Artificial intelligence pioneer OpenAI has inked a computing power collaboration pact with industry giants NVIDIA, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Oracle, and CoreWeave. The ambitious plan entails securing over 20 gigawatts of computing power, with a staggering total investment nearing US$1 trillion. Within this framework, NVIDIA has committed a substantial US$100 billion to facilitate OpenAI's acquisition of chips, while AMD has extended warrant rights to the AI firm. Despite projecting a hefty US$10 billion loss for the current year, OpenAI forecasts its annual revenue to soar to US$12 billion. To date, the company has successfully garnered around US$47 billion in cumulative funding and is poised to assume tens of billions of dollars in debt. Collaborators anticipate bolstering the computing power investment through expanding the user base and commercializing innovative products. However, OpenAI's substantial losses and financial approach have sparked skepticism within the industry.
