Yann LeCun, a Turing Award laureate and one of the three titans in the AI realm, disclosed that he might step down from his role as the Chief Scientist of Facebook AI Research (FAIR). He voiced profound discontent regarding Meta's organizational reshuffles within its AI division over the past several months, culminating in an emotional outburst.

In recent months, FAIR and LeCun have encountered a trifecta of challenges: recurrent fluctuations in Meta's AI strategic orientation and persistent organizational restructuring; LeCun's subtle but significant reduction in responsibilities (a situation that could be perceived as a demotion); and the imposition of additional review processes for FAIR to disseminate its research findings. These alterations have not only elicited dissatisfaction from LeCun but also left the broader FAIR team feeling generally disheartened, prompting some members to depart.

Simultaneously, there exists a rift between new and existing staff members. The generous benefits extended to new recruits at TBD Lab have further intensified team instability. Moreover, employees within Meta's virtual reality and augmented reality divisions have also voiced their displeasure with the internal AI department. This discontent stems from the fact that Meta AI's newly introduced feature, 'Vibes,' was launched concurrently with Sora 2 but underperformed significantly.
