Apple has clarified that there is no impropriety in its choice to team up with OpenAI when integrating generative artificial intelligence technology into the iPhone operating system. In court filings, Apple’s legal representatives emphasized that, even after forging a partnership with OpenAI, the company still intends to work with other generative AI chatbots down the line.

This past August, Musk’s xAI and X Corp initiated a lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI, demanding billions of dollars in compensation. They claimed that Apple showed favoritism toward OpenAI, suppressed innovation, and limited consumer options. At present, Apple has petitioned the judge to dismiss the lawsuit, arguing that the purported antitrust damage "rests on multiple layers of conjecture." Apple also underscored that antitrust regulations do not mandate the company to partner with every comparable product at the same time as collaborating with OpenAI.

The case is under review by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas (Fort Worth Division), bearing the case number 25-cv-00914 and titled "X Corp v. Apple Inc."
