According to reports from media outlets like Huanqiu.com, on September 11th (local time), Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama unveiled the list of his new cabinet, designating an artificial intelligence entity named 'Diela' (which translates to 'sun' in Albanian) as the Minister of Public Procurement. This move makes Albania the first nation worldwide to appoint a non-corporeal artificial intelligence to a ministerial position within its government.
Prime Minister Rama explained that the authority to make decisions regarding tenders would be progressively handed over to 'Diela'. This AI minister will be tasked with scrutinizing tender contracts between the government and private enterprises, as well as performing impartial evaluations.
The virtual representation of 'Diela' is depicted as a female figure adorned in traditional Albanian clothing. Earlier this year, 'Diela' was introduced as an AI virtual assistant, aimed at assisting citizens and businesses in acquiring government-issued documents.
