On September 12, the tech-focused website The Information, drawing on information from four insiders with knowledge of the situation, reported that Alibaba and Baidu have embarked on a journey of utilizing in-house developed chips to train large-scale AI models, marking a partial shift away from NVIDIA's offerings. In detail, Alibaba has been tapping into its self-designed chips for training lightweight AI models since the start of the current year. Meanwhile, Baidu is in the process of testing its Kunlunxin P800 chip, aiming to employ it in the training of the latest iteration of its Wenxin large AI model. Three staff members who have hands-on experience with Alibaba's chips commented that the performance of Alibaba's AI chips is already on par with that of NVIDIA's H20.
