On Alibaba's anniversary, AutoNavi unveiled its 'AutoNavi Street-Sweeping Rankings'. This initiative encompasses three primary categories: food, hotels, and scenic spots. Its main focus lies on offline dining merchants, and it extends its reach across more than 300 prefecture-level cities throughout the country. This ranking system directly challenges Dianping's Must-Eat List and the Black Pearl Restaurant Guide. Currently, the emphasis is on content development.
Alibaba has outlined a plan to invest two to three years in nurturing the 'new service industry e-commerce' market and positioning AutoNavi as the gateway to the offline world. The 'AutoNavi Street-Sweeping Rankings' project received internal approval at the end of June, with AutoNavi CEO Guo Ning taking the helm. The first half of 2025 is identified as the prime window for launching these rankings.
AutoNavi will harness the power of AI maps and user behavior data to curate an authentic and reliable ranking list. This list will take into account a multitude of factors, with the possibility of introducing niche rankings down the line. Driven by AI algorithm models, this ranking system offers a more scientific and valuable reference. Additionally, AutoNavi plans to overhaul the credit system for offline merchants.
AutoNavi Maps already commands a Daily Active User (DAU) base of 186 million, showcasing its formidable distribution capabilities. The offline business sector is currently a battleground, with Douyin and Meituan already in the fray. Alibaba's timely entry has the potential to shake up the existing market dynamics.
