The Japanese newspapers Nikkei and Asahi have initiated legal proceedings against Perplexity AI in the Tokyo District Court, accusing the latter of unauthorized copying and storage of their article content. They are requesting the immediate deletion of the infringing material and are seeking compensation of 2.2 billion yen (roughly $15 million) each, amounting to a total claim of approximately $30 million from the two media outlets.
