On August 22, a coalition of prominent Swedish companies unveiled the creation of Sferical AI, a venture dedicated to operating an AI supercomputer with the aim of bolstering Sweden's global competitiveness. The consortium, comprising AstraZeneca, Ericsson, Saab, SEB, and Investor AB, is supported by the Wallenberg Foundation. This initiative underscores the Swedish industry's commitment to preparing for the AI era. Sferical AI is a result of a collaborative agreement struck between Marcus Wallenberg and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang in May of this year, and the supercomputer will leverage the NVIDIA system. Jenny Nordlow and Anders Ynnerman from the Wallenberg Foundation will assume the roles of CEO and Executive Chairman of Sferical AI, respectively. They disclosed that NVIDIA will establish an AI technology hub in Sweden, fostering close collaboration with Sferical AI's partners to tailor AI systems and explore innovative applications.
