On September 23, SoftBank Group embarked on a corporate junk bond offering that has the potential to rank among the largest ever, with the objective of securing funds from debt investors to fuel substantial investments in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector. As a leading global investor in AI, SoftBank has commenced marketing for this multi-tranche transaction, with preliminary price guidance for the dollar-denominated segment still under consideration. The offering is designed to raise more than $11 billion, comprising $10 billion in dollar-denominated bonds and €1 billion (equivalent to roughly $1.1 billion) in euro-denominated bonds. This represents SoftBank's most recent foray into the bond market this year, with the goal of financing its nearly $65 billion investment pledge to OpenAI and facilitating additional mergers and acquisitions within the AI industry.
