On September 23, according to The Information, the launch process for futures tied to the rental prices of Nvidia GPUs has encountered obstacles. This was seen as a crucial step in transforming AI computing power into an investable asset. The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) had originally planned to introduce computing power futures contracts in early October, but it is now expected that regulatory approval will not be secured by then. The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) stated in a letter that it is extending the review period to gain a deeper understanding of the operational mechanisms of such contracts and to solicit broad industry input. The CFTC believes that while the financial market for computing power supports AI development in the United States, the underlying market is fragmented and opaque.
