On May 8, OpenAI announced on Thursday that its latest AI model variant, GPT-5.5-Cyber, is being made available in a limited preview to vetted cybersecurity teams. Previously, its competitor Anthropic's Claude Mythos preview version had already attracted attention from investors and government officials. OpenAI stated that the GPT-5.5-Cyber preview version is not aimed at significantly boosting cybersecurity capabilities but is trained to be more flexible when handling security-related tasks. With this version specifically designed for cybersecurity, vetted teams will be able to more easily leverage OpenAI's latest model for tasks such as vulnerability identification and classification, patch verification, and malware analysis.
